What is Meditation?
The word meditation comes from the Arabic root “Raqaba”, which means to watch, focus, and draw near. Its close derivative, “Raqib”, means the protector and observer. When a person meditates, they purify and concentrate their mind and heart to the point that they feel close to Allah. The one who meditates is called a “Muraqqib”, meaning a person striving to attain closeness to Allah.

The Philosophy of Meditation
The main purpose of meditation is to attain Allah’s love and proximity. During meditation, one directs attention away from worldly thoughts and focuses entirely on the Divine. This practice clears the heart of unnecessary thoughts, creating a luminous state of mind. In this state, a person draws nearer to Allah’s light, opening a spiritual door that allows inner peace to flow.

Meditation and Solitude
Solitude is essential for attaining closeness to Allah. The longer you sit in silence and isolation, the more you can immerse yourself in remembrance of Allah. There is no fixed time for this remembrance, but your attention must be pure, free from worldly stress, anger, or sorrow. When the mind is fully focused, a person can feel the closeness of Allah.

How to Practice Spiritual Meditation

Meditation and Spiritual Insight (Kashf)
In the world of meditation, Kashf holds a special place. A Kashif is someone who can see with the spiritual eye, meaning that when the physical eyes are closed, the eye of the heart opens. The first step in meditation is to cultivate a luminous state in the heart, awakening inner consciousness. With persistent effort, spiritual secrets and truths gradually become revealed.

The Importance of Consistency
Consistency is the most crucial element in meditation. Even half an hour of daily practice strengthens spiritual power over time. Without perseverance, one may start with enthusiasm but soon abandon the practice. Remember: meditation is for those who sincerely seek Allah’s pleasure and are willing to work with dedication.

Commitments for Meditation Practice:

  1. Meditate daily for at least 30 minutes.
  2. Gradually increase this time to one hour or more.
  3. Strengthen your focus, intention, and sincerity.

If you make this commitment, Insha’Allah, success will not be far from you.

Spiritual Benefits of Meditation:

  • Peace and tranquility in the heart.
  • A mind free from negative thoughts.
  • Easier acceptance of prayers.
  • Experiencing the closeness and love of Allah Almighty.
